Newsfeeds.com® Questions happen.
We understand. And we can help. Here are some of our more tried-and-true answers. If none fit your particular question, contact our tech support team. They love a challenge.
Q: How will your charge appear on my credit card statement?
A: USAepay will display Newsfeeds.com on your credit card statement.
Q: There are so many different newsgroups to choose from. How do I decide which newsgroups are right for me?
A: Regardless of your account level, you have server access to both gateways on the East and the West Coast. We recommend that you configure your newsreader with both of these access gateways. This will allow you to easily switch between the servers and obtain articles. Look for a newsreader that is able to configure multiple news servers simultaneously.
Q: What is a newsreader?
A: Microsoft Outlook Express is an example of a basic newsreader. It is free, easy to use, and handles multiple news servers well. Outlook Express is available for both Windows and Macintosh. If you are running Windows, Outlook Express is already installed on your computer. Otherwise, it comes as part of the Internet Explorer package that can be downloaded at no cost from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/ie/.
News Rover™ is another great newsreader. Best of all, customized News Rover™ is available for free download in Member's Area. News Rover is already pre-configured to our servers, so there is zero set up required to use it. Log into the Member's Area and go to the "Support" page to get detailed instructions on using News Rover and a few other recommended newsreaders.
Q: Where can I find instructions on setting up my newsreader application?
A: Depending on the newsreader you want to use, you may be able to find information on setting it up on our software resources site or our tutorial. We provide step-by-step instructions on setting up several popular newsreaders, including the free News Rover you get with your Newsfeeds membership. For help on setting up and using additional newsreader applications, please contact technical support.
Q: What if I run out of bandwidth in the middle of the month?
A: Running out of bandwidth will never be an issue. Our new account management system, located in the Member's Area, allows you to add as much bandwidth as you want, without having to permanently change your monthly account level. You have full control over this option. Nothing will be added without your request.
Q: What is the difference between the monthly plans and the unlimited add-ons?
A: Our monthly unlimited add-ons are an additional perk you can get with your monthly download plan. They are not stand-alone plans you can sign up for. Unlike the monthly fixed plans - where you download what you paid for, having the unlimited add-on allows you to download without limit on one day, two days, or three days per week (you pick what days among Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). For example, if you have a one-day Unlimited add-on and you pick Tuesday as your day, then every Tuesday, starting and ending at midnight, (Central Time) you will be able to enjoy unlimited downloads on both of our server groups (East and West Coast). No limits whatsoever, you could download the whole Usenet if you wanted to!
Q: When I download the article headers in a group, I do not get as many article headers as my newsreader says are available. Why?
A: Most newsreaders determine how many articles are available in a group by performing a calculation of the difference between the highest and the lowest article ID number. However, this calculation is seldom accurate. As Usenet server maintenance software improves, this glitch should be eliminated.
Q: Why are some articles expiring so quickly?
A: The rate of article expiration will vary by group and will depend on the amount and size of new articles coming in. The only limitation we set is the amount of disk space available on our servers. We regularly add new disk space to increase our retention rates.
Q: Do I have to use newsreader software to access the Usenet newsgroups?
A: No, we have a free Web News Gateway available to both PC and MSN TV (formerly WebTV) users. In order to access the gateway, all you need is a web browser, such as Internet Explorer for Windows or Safari for Mac. Using a newsreader remains the most efficient way to navigate Usenet, but because the Web-Gateway is simpler, we recommend it to beginning users. The web address of the gateway is WebNews.Newsfeeds.com. Learn more about the Web Gateway here or check out the instructions for using it here.
Q: How do I cancel my Newsfeeds account?
A: To cancel, please fill out a new support form at least five business days prior to you next billing date to avoid future billing.
Q: Do I have to have a credit card to sign up?
A: No, we have many other methods that you can use to subscribe for Usenet access, including online check or money order. Please go to our sign up page to review them or contact our support staff to inquire about our additional payment options.
Q: How will your charge appear on my credit card statement?
A: All credit card and online check charges are processed by our authorized credit card processors, USAepay and ccBill. Because we process our billing through them, your credit card or account statement may contain the name USAepay or ccBill (depending on the billing processor you picked) and not Newsfeeds.com. Contact Us if you have any questions about this.
Q: Why are there articles missing in some of the newsgroups?
A: This can happen for several reasons. Most likely, some of the articles (or parts of articles) were filtered out as spam before they reached our servers. We do not filter any incoming articles on our servers;
Q: I am unable to access the Unlimited server (NoLimit.Newsfeeds.com); why?
A: First of all, you need to make sure that you have signed up for a monthly add-on. Only members who have added one of the Unlimited add-ons have access to the Unlimited server. Second, you need to make sure that you are accessing the server on the day or days you had selected when you subscribed for the add-on. For example, if you got a two-day Unlimited add-on and you picked Tuesday and Wednesday as your days, you will only be able to access the Unlimited server and download without limits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You will not be able to access the server on any other day of the week.
Q: Some articles that I post from Newsfeeds.com do not seem to propagate to other news servers; why?
A: Another news server may be canceling them. We cannot be responsible for articles not propagating once they have been sent to our upstream servers. Another reason could be that you have a record of abuse on our servers and your posting access has been disabled. Once your posting access has been disabled due to posting abuse, it will never be renewed. In such cases, there is nothing we can do.
Q: Why are Newsfeeds.com footers being placed on all my outgoing posts?
A: We use footers to keep our advertising costs low. That means we can continue to offer our customers low rates for our service.
Q: Why are my outgoing posts showing up as anonymous?
A: This will happen only if you are posting through our servers. If you do not want your posts to appear anonymous, you will need to manually enter your information in the "From" box within the posting options of your newsreader.
Q: How do I change my username, password, or other account information?
A: To change your Newsfeeds username and password, log into the Member's Area and go to "Account Info" or open a new support form from the "Support" page. Be sure to include your existing username and password in your request.
Q: How can I change the credit card or bank account I am using for my Newsfeeds.com subscription?
A: At this time, USAepay and ccBill do not allow you to change your billing information. Instead, they require you to cancel your account and sign up again with the new information.
Q: How do I upgrade or downgrade my Newsfeeds account?
A: If you signed up for a monthly plan using a credit card or online check, you will need to cancel your old subscription and subscribe for a new one, going through the subscription process one more time.
If you subscribed using Money Order, you will need to wait until your current 3 or 6-month subscription expires. After that you can get a new 3 or 6-month membership for the account level of your choice by going through the regular sign up process and selecting a new username/password. If you wish to keep your old username, please follow the subscription renewal instructions provided at the bottom of our sign up page.
As a member, you have two options for changing your current account level:
A) To upgrade immediately, you must cancel your account and re-sign up using a different username.
B) To keep your existing username, you must cancel your existing subscription, wait for your account expiration date (you may find this in the Member's Area), and then re-sign up for a new account on this website, selecting your old username during the subscription process.
Q: How do I check my account information, available bandwidth, and account expiration date?
A: You can find all this information and more in the Member's Area of our website. You can change your username and password under "Account Info" as well. Let us know if you have any questions about your account, or want to make any changes.
Q: Are there any download limitations or speed restrictions placed on individual user accounts?
A: Your monthly download limit reflects the plan you purchased. If you bought a 25GB/month plan, you have a total of 25 gigabytes download availability. Your account will renew on a monthly basis. Remaining monthly GB will not roll over to the following month. There is also a simultaneous connection limit of ten streams per server, per member. We do not place any speed restrictions on your account like other providers do.
Q: How do I report abuse issues?
A: You may report newsgroup and Usenet abuse issues to abuse@newsfeeds.com. Please include the name of the group and the article ID when reporting abuse. We will do our best to remove the offending posts as soon as possible.
Q: Do headers count towards my Newsfeeds.com bandwidth?
A: No, we do not charge our members for downloading headers; they're on us and will not cost you anything to download and view! This way you can check out as many different newsgroups as you want, without ever worrying about depleting your bandwidth for headers!
Q: Are the Member's Area stats real-time?
A: Yes, all statistics in the Member's Area are updated real-time, for the most up-to-date account and download information possible.
Q: Does the "Total Downloaded" amount in the Control Panel include both News.Newsfeeds and News-Europe downloads?
A: Yes, "Total Downloaded" stands for all bandwidth used up by you on the News and News-Europe servers combined. This statistic is available in the Control Panel of the Newsfeeds Member's Area.
